Meet The Arizun Team

The management team at Arizun are committed to delivering both a caring and commercially viable solution for all our clients. We partner with only the best specialists, firms with proven track record, in all aspects of our programme to ensure the experience for all involved is as smooth and seamless as possible.

Our management team includes:

John McDaniel – Managing Director

John brings a wealth of international business experience to the team. He spent many years in international trade as owner of a specialised barter trading company that operated from London, Geneva and Dubai.  John then leveraged on his trading experience in moving into the aviation industry. His private equity firm purchased Tradewinds Airways (a cargo airline) from the Lonhro Group in the UK and then established the first private foreign investment airline in the Republic of Turkey. Latterly, he acted as an aviation and financial consultant in Europe, the Middle East and South America prior to working in the family business on the commercialisation of complex scientific research programmes.

John entered the residential property sector after researching a programme to provide wholesale financing for low cost homes in developing countries. He then identified the commercial opportunity for the Arizun STAY IN YOUR HOME Programme and is also working with his team to deliver solutions for social housing and housing for disabled persons.


Paula Downey – Operations and Governance

Paula has worked in senior Financial Services roles for over 20 years. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG and holds an honours law degree (L.LB) from Trinity College Dublin. She is currently on the Board of Directors of J&E Davy (UK) Limited, a prominent wealth management firm in Northern Ireland, and was previously on the Board of Davy Stockbrokers, Ireland’s leading provider of wealth management, asset management, capital markets and financial advisory services. Paula has held senior positions in fund services, a leading provider of outsourced services and wealth management and has worked as a Director in KPMG’s Regulatory Advisory practice. She spent 9 years as Head of Compliance of the Davy Group and a further 6 years as the firm’s Business and Legal Director. Paula has extensive experience of managing relationships with regulators and implementing regulatory change. In addition, she has undertaken regulatory due diligence projects, successfully completed multi-jurisdictional authorisation applications and managed complex consumer litigation. Paula is a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland (FCA) and of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (FCSI). She is a Registered Stockbroker and an Accredited Product Adviser (APA) for Savings and Investments; Housing Loans, Home Reversion Agreements and Associated Insurances and Consumer Credit Agreements.


Ray Murphy – Financial Operations

Ray is an experienced Chartered Tax Advisor and financial manager. His tax practice has included several prominent clients and projects in the property and entertainment sectors. Ray started his career with the Revenue Commissioners after which he moved into private practice. He has had his own tax practice since 2009, before which he worked with DLTM Taxation Limited where he was responsible for the establishment and development of the Taxation Consultancy & Planning arm of the accountancy firm Delaney Locke & Thorpe. His emphasis was on the property, manufacturing and medical sectors. Between 2003 and 2005, Ray managed an international property portfolio of more than €3.0 billion across Ireland, UK, USA, Japan, Vietnam and Europe. This project included the sourcing of finance, preparation and execution of business plans, negotiations with tenants and liaising with tax professionals in the relevant jurisdictions.

Cathal O’Leary – Origination and Capital Markets

Cathal is a stock broker and investment banker with over 20 years capital markets and treasury experience in both international and domestic markets. His early career with NCB included money market and treasury sales functions to large international financial institutions. Subsequently, with NCB Cathal was responsible for the sale of credit products with a focus on subordinated capital instruments and securitised ABS/MBS. He took an active part in the marketing of the first Irish Covered Bond issue. Cathal then moved to the Equity Desk at NCB where he was responsible for the marketing of Irish Equities to institutional clients. After NCB was acquired by Investec, he continued to re-establish and build the Fixed Income Business within Investec’s Irish operation. Cathal has a BA in economics from University College Dublin.



The Arizun Mortgage Debt Resolution Scheme can only be applied to an individual home once the Arizun Funds have acquired a portfolio of mortgages from a European financial institution which includes the mortgage currently held over the individual home. Arizun cannot guarantee that any individual home or homeowner will be allowed access to the Arizun Mortgage Debt Resolution Scheme, but if you like our programme let us and your bank know about your interest.
